Amsterdam to London
Yesterday I flew into London with Mel, Jem, Jan and John. They were all visiting me in Amsterdam over the weekend, Jan and John on their own World Tour, Mel and Jem because there was a long weekend in the UK. We all had a good time, with some tasty meals, tasty drinks and memorable experiences. I am staying with Mel ...more»

Like rain on your wedding day*
Tonight someone was speaking to me in Dutch and I didn’t realise it. I just understood as if they were speaking English. So I had “the moment” on one of my last nights in Amsterdam. Oh! Cruel fate, why do you mock me? I will really miss this city. There is so much that I didn’t see. *note to family: the title of ...more»
I think that this track…
Now playing: Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing (Remix) …has the best stereo intro of any song. Please note that I am referring to the remix from the “Live and rare” album. ...more»
Welkom bij Dumpsdorp, populatie: mij
Last night Kirsten sat down and announced that she was breaking up with me. The reason given was that we have different priorities for the future: I intend to someday have a family, she does not. Whilst I agree with that assessment, I would have preferred a different solution (i.e. doing it my way). The universal response has been shock. Our ...more»
Lago Maggiore, Italy
On Friday night we left for Italy with Marcel and Sharon, two of our friends who had invited us to their holiday house on Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. Marcel had just taken delivery of a new BMW and was quite keen to test it on the autobahns in Germany, so that is the route we took. We travelled from ...more»
dat kan niet, yet again
I come from a country where businesses want you to give them money. In many cases, the purpose of a business is to get money from people. A different philosophy is used in the Netherlands. The purpose of businesses here is solely to employ people, and those people are employed to say “that is not possible” (dat kan niet). An example, common ...more»

Crystal Clear
I have discovered my new favourite drink. It is Crystal Clear Appel en Peer (Zonder Koolzuur!). It is basically an artificial apple and pear juice, with no calories at all. It tastes like apple and pear juice would taste, if it was souped-up and made to taste more awesome. It has no bubbles, which is a plus, as here in ...more»
Hell’s Bells
The other night Kirsten and I were enjoying sitting outside at a cafe named Cafe 't Smalle, right on the edge of Egelantiersgracht, where it joins Prinsengracht (gracht means canal). I was literally 20cm from the edge. A very picturesque place, I wished I had brought my camera for the folks back home. During our hourlong stay, no less than four ...more»
