I have succumbed. I am now using the .text database for darryn.net, and the .text interface for actually writing posts. I am not actually going to use the .text interface for the foreseeable future as it does not have the features I am after. Maybe I will write what I want and contribute it to .text. It was my birthday on Monday - I turned 29. As usual, I managed to stretch the birthday out over a few days.
