I know that my fear is disproportionate to the actual risk so I decided to do something about it, I went indoor rock climbing. My introduction was courtesy of Jem, who is into that kind of thing. We went to the climbing gym at St Leonards, around the corner from Adam and Bits’ apartment. It cost me $18 for entry and harness hire.
They took us to a special belaying practice wall, and I was the first to be belayed, in other words I was the first to have to climb. I don’t mind telling you that I was shiteing it, my heart was beating fast and I could hear the blood rushing through my head. I only managed to climb halfway up the wall before I could go no more. I made the mistake of looking down.
After the second climb I was shiteing it no more. My focus had shifted from challenging fear, to the challenge of the wall. I was enjoying myself, and I had no fear of falling. I am on the road to being cured.
I managed maybe 12 climbs, the last 5 of which were boosted by willpower, as all of our arms had long since spent their strength reserves. I enjoyed myself at the climbing gym, and I am happy to make it a regular Wednesday night thing.

Craig has really got me thinking about XO sauce. I always see it on the menu, but it is so mysterious that I have to run it through my Anglification filter to know what it is: HP sauce. I think HP sauce wouldn’t go well with seafood, hence neither could XO sauce. I have never tried it.
The whole thing turned on its head when Craig revealed to us that the place where consumed his XO sauce was Golden Century. I assume it is the Golden Century that kicks ass and brings out live critters to amuse and delight the customer. The Golden Centrury that is in my opinion one of the best restauarants in Sydney. I love it.
If Craig goes to Golden Century, looks at the wealth of tasty dishes available to him, and he knowingly chooses XO sauce, then this means something. It is possible that i might have unfairly judged XO sauce.
XO Sauce: Craig’s recommendation has convinced me. Next week I will go and open up a new world of flavour. More to come …

Following the Star Wars theme, some clever people have looked at the films from a wheat vs chaff perspective, and come up with 3 minute flash animations that pretty much cover the plot of the movies: Star Dudes; The Bad Dude Strikes Back; Return of the Dude; and The Phantom Dude. They are a few megs each, but worth the download if you are into this sort of thing, and if you are reading this then you probably are.
